TTA Tuesday Matinee - May 21, 2024

“You are cordially invited to a wedding where everybody wants to kiss the bride … except the groom !” on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 1 p.m.

THE WEDDING BANQUET (1993), Ang Lee’s second feature film of his FATHER KNOWS BEST trilogy, is a romantic comedy directed, produced and co-written by Mr. Lee himself.

The story concerns a Taiwanese immigrant in the States, who plans to marry a Mainland Chinese woman to placate his parents and to get her a green card. Things go all amiss when his parents arrive in the USA to plan his wedding banquet and he has to reveal the truth.

The film was a critical and commercial success, winning the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, and 5 Golden Horse Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It also received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Foreign-Language Film.

In 2023, the film was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
